The First Adventure of 2010

The Galloping Grandma is off again! This time I am flying out to Tenerife where I join the Volunteer Crew of the Stavros S Niarchos as Assistant Cook. We then sail from Tenerife to Madeira, no doubt calling in several places en-route. We anticipate getting to Madeira on 28th January and I am then being joined by my friend Margaret to spend the next 6 days walking on, the extremely hilly, or should I say mountainous, Madeira Island.

Friday morning.

The sun is quite hot sitting here alongside in La Palma. We are due to sail in 45 minutes but the wind is against us for Madeira so we are planning to sail 300 miles eastward to Lanzarotte. That is expected to take us 30 hrs then we will anchor off and have a barbie in the waist - always a lot of work for the galley staff while others enjoy the food and booze!

    Glad you are enjoying the trip so far. The weather looks good. Hope it stays that way when we meet up on Friday. Looking forward to Madeira. Have a safe sail........
